Poetry Friday: A Door Just Opened on a Street by Emily Dickinson

Current Mood: awake
Current Song: Beautiful Disaster by Kelly Clarkson

A Door just opened on a street -
I - lost - was passing by -
An instant's Width of Warmth disclosed -
And Wealth - and Company.

The Door as instant shut - And I -
I - lost - was passing by -
Lost doubly - but by contrast - most -
Informing - misery -

Emily is great. As is my friend Emily. No relation. ;-)

I like her poems about doors and windows. But, you know, I like doors and windows as themes in everything.

(No relation? Hey! My half-salamander was her monkey's friend!)

She - overuses dashes - at times
And I don't Capitalize - things -
Like she Does
But your salamander
Must be Nice.

I'm not a huge fan of her poems, though I think they read better out loud than on paper.

Half-salamander.

Oh, there wasn't any other half.

Right half.

One eye, two legs? In picturing this, I'm saddest about the tail, actually.

Don't worry - the tail is fully functional. I like to remember it as being polka-dotted.
