Booklist: Fairy Nice

silly

Current Mood: silly
Current Song: Johnny and the Sprites theme song

If a book has a fairy on the cover, chances are I'll pick it up and read the plot summary. If it sounds good, I have to read the book. My two favorite fictional fairies - say that ten times fast - are Tinker Bell from Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie and Tiki from The Fairy Rebel by Lynne Reid Banks. The following titles are fairy nice.

Classics
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie
A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare
The Fairy Books by Andrew Lang

Artwork and Poetry
Flower Fairies books by Cicely Mary Barker (the originals, please)
In the Realm of the Never Fairies: The Secret World of Pixie Hollow, designed by Elizabeth Ryazantseva and Megan Krempels, with text by Monique Peterson and illustrations by The Disney Storybook Artists

Picture Books
The Tooth Fairy by Audrey Wood

Juvenile Fiction
The Fairy Rebel by Lynne Reid Banks
(This is one of my favorite children's books of all time.)

Juvenile Series
Fairy Realm by Emily Rodda
Disney Fairies by various authors (These are related to Tinker Bell.)
The Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black
Candy Fairies by Helen Perelman, illustrated by Erica-Jane Waters
The Fairy Godmother's Academy by Jan Bozarth

Teen Fiction
(Note that some of these titles have cruel pixies or evil fairies in addition to or instead of the nice kind!)

The Modern Faerie Tales by Holly Black:
- Tithe
- Valiant
- Ironside

Poison by Chris Wooding

How to Ditch Your Fairy by Justine Larbalestier

Need series by Carrie Jones:
- Need
- Captivate
- Entice

Wicked Lovely series by Melissa Marr:
- Wicked Lovely
- Ink Exchange
- Fragile Eternity
- Darkest Mercy

Tink Tidbits
As mentioned earlier, I adore the character of Tinker Bell as created by J.M. Barrie. I also like Disney's depiction of her. Learn more about my Tink fandom.

Hey Little Willow-
I have a short story called Bella and Wendy. It's realistic YA, but written in fairy-tale form. Maybe you'd like to read it? :)

I think it's so cool that Tinker Bell is going to have her very own movie!

Have you seen the 2003 live-action version of Peter Pan? The purists don't like it, but I thought it was very interesting.

believe

I liked the film, but it disappointed me. You see, all of the press while it was being cast, filmed, and promoted stated that the film was sticking to the original play and book - the first ever full-length live-action movie of Peter Pan. I saw it in the theatres and was upset by the changes. I did like Tink!

I just thought the movie was visually beautiful. I tried to not get distracted by the changes.

I love the Disney Fairies! I have all the books and I even have some of the little dolls and figures. I didn't even know the movie was coming out this year. I'm so excited.

Added you!

To the best of my knowledge, this will be the first time Tink gets a voice on film. Her voice will be provided by Brittany Murphy.

I think Brittany will make a good Tink.
