Poetry Friday: Love and Friendship by Emily Bronte
Love is like the wild rose-briar;
Friendship like the holly-tree.
The holly is dark when the rose-briar blooms,
But which will bloom most constantly?

The wild rose-briar is sweet in spring,
Its summer blossoms scent the air;
Yet wait till winter comes again,
And who will call the wild-briar fair?

Then, scorn the silly rose-wreath now,
And deck thee with the holly's sheen,
That, when December blights thy brow,
He still may leave thy garland green.

There's been much confusion in my office this week as yesterday one of the girls thought it was Wednesday. But, um, aren't you jumping the gun a bit? Or are you going to be off-line on Friday?

I found it last night and wanted to post it in advance for today. See all of the Holly references?

I have no idea why that posted as anonymous as I had already logged in.

Ah, now I see the rest of my confusion. When I click right on your name, it is stickied to the top (at least until Friday), but it's already halfway down the previous page on my LJ when I just read my friends page, so I thought you had just posted it yesterday and not backdated it. That
s sort of annoying as I've done this befroe too and now I know that anyone who only reads my page as part of the flist and not direct from my page may have missed it, especially if I did any updates.

This ramble has been brought to you by the makers of Notenuffsleep who encourage everyone to "Wake up now!"

I'm catching up on my blog reading from the whole week and was reading backward, but I read this and knew right away. So sorry to hear the sad news. Wishing you good thoughts and comfort.

And that is a lovely poem.

Thanks, Adrienne. You have cats, right? Hug them for me.

I do, and I will.

I took Benny (the younger) to the vet for his routine checkup/shots yesterday, which frightens him terribly, and it struck me when we were all hanging out before the day started this morning how very lucky I am to have him and Ella. Ben doesn't know why I took him out to that frightening place, but he forgives me and trusts me and continues to sit next to me and purr. It's a profound thing.

I am sure that Benny knows you are taking care of him. Poor baby - You said this was routine, so I hope you mean typical/annual checkups as opposed to weekly/monthly. Enjoy every moment, every meow, every purr that he and Ella share with you.

Great poem for Holly. I'm glad you're doing well, LW. Lots of love. I'm thinking you about a lot.
