Poetry Friday: The Waking

June 8th, 2007 (06:06 am)
awake

Current Mood: awake
Current Song: I Believe from Spring Awakening

I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I have to go.

We think by feeling. What is there to know?
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

...

This shaking keeps me steady. I should know.
What falls away is always. And is near.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go.

-- The Waking by Theodore Roethke

I love this poem, too. :)

I see you're listening to Spring Awakening. I saw it last week and have been listening to/singing the soundtrack ever since. Have you seen it? I would have happily sat and watched it again as soon as it was finished.

I have not seen it yet. Did you see it on Broadway? Oh, lucky girl!

I have been a firm supporter of Duncan Sheik's music since his first album, and I couldn't be happier for Sheik & Sater receiving such critical praise for their SA work.

I *am* a lucky girl. Aside from getting to see a great show, a friend of mine is stage managing it, so I got to see what she's been throwing her energy into these many months. I'm hoping the show gets lots of awards tomorrow night. (I strategically scheduled my 48 hours of reading to start in a way that would leave me of plenty of time to watch.)

Congratulations to her and the entire crew. Far too often, people focus on those on stage adn forget to consider the work of those behind-the-scenes.

Matilda

Heh. I wrote a parody of this poem called "The Schooling" for English class back in high school. :)
