Poetry Friday: Kling, Glöckchen

September 21st, 2007 (07:10 am)
happy

Current Mood: happy
Current Song: Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind from Spring Awakening

Deutsch:

Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling!
Kling, Glöckchen, kling!
Laßt mich ein, ihr Kinder!
Ist so kalt der Winter!
Öffnet mir die Türen!
Laßt mich nicht erfrieren!
Kling, Glöckchen, klingelingeling!
Kling, Glöckchen, kling!

English:

Ring, little bell, ringalingaling!
Ring, little bell, ring!
Let me in, you kids!
So cold is the winter!
Open the doors for me!
Don't let me freeze!
Ring, little bell, ringalingaling!
Ring, little bell, ring!

-- Kling, Glöckchen, a German Christmas carol with lyrics by Carl Enslin and music by Benedikt Widmann

Read all of the lyrics in both languages.

This is for my comrades in the kindertragedie. May each of us break a leg tonight!

Break a leg, LW!

And as soon as I saw the lyrics auf Deutsch, I started singing it. I love that carol!

There's a track on Mannheim Steamroller's "Christmas in the Aire" which you can hear sampled on iTunes.

I don't have iTunes, but I'm saving the link to see if someone else can get the song...

Hey! I know which one is you! How cool!

I think I might have learned more German while I was living in Germany if I'd have ditched the "where is the train station?" tapes and learned songs instead. Even if I can't sing worth a hoot.

Break everything you need to,

I tend to dislike pictures of me.

You can tell that we were told not to be in character for this shot. My other pictures from the press shoot (at least, the vast majority of them) are very serious. Poor Martha.

Please teach me how to say, "Where is the train station?" (I'm a naturally curious person. *points to Alice in Wonderland shirt*)

Thank you so, so much.

Don't quote me on this, and spelling is not guaranteed, but: "Wo ist der bahnhof?" The only problem with saying this is that kind folks would start spouting off directions in German, leaving me helplessly lost.

I may use this in a scene for something someday. May I have permission?

Indeed. You could even have the tapes, if I could still find them.

Woo hoo!

Injure a limb! ;)

If they should have anyone film this, make sure they use a tripod. Flashbacks to my "Blair Witch" filming of a play, long, long, long ago. ;)
