Poetry Friday: Miss Congeniality by Laura Kasischke
And my

heart (which was a Boy Scout

lost for years in a forest). And my

soul (although the judges said
it weighed almost nothing
for goodness had devoured it).

- a fragment of Miss Congeniality by Laura Kasischke

Read the poem in full.

Also: I recently read an advanced copy of Laura Kasischke's next novel, Feathered, which will be released in April 2008. Absolutely engrossing, Feathered is one of the best books I've read all year, and I recommend it strongly, especially to girls in their last year of high school. Read my review.

What I love is that I had already read and bookmarked this poem, intending to use it for Poetry Friday, prior to reading Feathered. I selected this portion because it brought to mind the Ancient Egypt myth of weighing the dead person's heart against a feather. Perfect timing and tie-in symbolism.

That one about knocked me down! And thanks for the heads up on her new novel. I'll be looking for your review.

You are welcome.
Have you read Boy Heaven?
I have to catch up on blogs! Yours and so many others! I've had little time online between work and shows, so please fill me in. :)

No, I haven't. What a good title, though. Too many books, so little time. And I know you've been super-busy, so no need to apologize about not visiting. Plus, like I told you before, I'm living vicariously through your stage adventures, so I don't want you to stop!

In that case, can you feel how excited I am for this weekend? :)
