Poetry Friday: The Fairy Dew Drop by Laura Ingalls Wilder

Current Mood: creative
Current Song: Without a Trace score music

Down by the spring one morning
Where the shadows still lay deep
I found in the heart of a flower
A tiny fairy asleep.

Her flower couch was perfumed,
Leaf curtains drawn with care,
And there she sweetly slumbered,
With a jewel in her hair.
- from The Fairy Dew Drop by Laura Ingalls Wilder

Thanks to Sarah Miller for pointing me towards Laura Ingalls Wilder's Fairy Poems, a collection introduced and compiled by Stephen W. Hines and illustrated by Richard Hull.

Of course you may post it - It isn't mine to permit! ;)

I read a biography of LAW back in the fall. It mentioned her fairy poems, but I've never seen any. Thanks for posting this.

It's like a little, magical, imaginative oasis in the midst of her difficult and prosaic life.

There's more to this poem - I posted my favorite stanzas - so definitely check out the book if you're a fan of her work.

Inconceivable!

I had no clue she'd written fairy poems. Must search them out.
