Poetry Friday: Though I Get Home How Late by Emily Dickinson

October 24th, 2008 (07:28 am)
excited

Current Mood: excited
Current Song: My Battle by Jonatha Brooke

Though I get home how late, how late!
So I get home, 't will compensate.
Better will be the ecstasy
That they have done expecting me,
When, night descending, dumb and dark,
They hear my unexpected knock.
Transporting must the moment be,
Brewed from decades of agony!

To think just how the fire will burn,
Just how long-cheated eyes will turn
To wonder what myself will say,
And what itself will say to me,
Beguiles the centuries of way!

TadMack says: :)

This one really is sweet to me -- it's why I always consider not telling people when I'm coming home, or telling them a different time; the surprise is always the best.

Re: TadMack says: :)

That sounds nice. :) I'm the opposite: I always make sure someone knows where I am or what I'm doing, if I am meeting up with someone or whatnot. I'd always rather be half an hour early than two seconds late. I selected this poem today because lately I've been home about six hours a day, just to sleep, and then I'm off again!

My thoughts are with your husband and your extended family.

Oh my word, I don't think I'd read this one yet.

Is amazing.

Emily Dickinson always gets me immediately. She's my kryptonite. Everything about her poetry amazes me--especially the simplicity.
