The second annual Operation TBD will take place on April 16th, 2009!

Operation Teen Book Drop 2009 (TBD '09) is being held in celebration of Support Teen Literature Day, April 16th, 2009. Through the efforts of readergirlz, GuysLitWire, YALSA, and publishers, teen patients in pediatric hospitals across the United States will receive 8,000 new young-adult novels, audiobooks, and graphic novels.

Inciting all to participate in Operation TBD in its drive to spur reading on a national scale, readergirlz invites teens and YA authors to leave a book in a public place on April 16th. Participants can download bookplates to insert into the books they'll leave behind. The TBD Post-Op Party is open to everyone at the rgz blog http://readergirlz.blogspot.com at 6:00 PM Pacific/9:00 PM Eastern. Come rock the drop in 2009!

Backstory

Last year, the first-ever Operation TBD was a huge success. YALSA and readergirlz organized a massive, coordinated release of 10,000 publisher-donated YA books into the top pediatric hospitals across the country and encouraged people to donate books to hospitals, schools, libraries, and gathering spots in their communities. (Learn more about last year's efforts here and there.)

During these challenging economic times, readergirlz continues to believe books offer hope and consolation. Now, more than ever, hospitalized teens need the escape and inspiration they get through reading quality young adult literature -- books with exceptional characters and fabulous stories.

Thank you for reading, reflecting, and reaching out!

How does a hospital go about signing up to receive books? I'd like to see if any of the hospitals my niece has been to might be interested. (Washington DC, Cleveland, Cincinnati)
