Booking Your New Year's Resolutions: Following Up

January 5th, 2009 (09:37 pm)

Current Mood: curious
Current Song: House score music

Last year, I asked my blog readers if they had any New Year's Resolutions related to books. Here's what they pledged.

I open the floor to everyone, but I'd especially love to hear from those who participated. Did you stick to your resolutions last year? Did you make any resolutions for this year?

I totally forgot about my resolution to read more books that I already owned. Well, I did read some but probably not enough. I managed to acquire quite a few more books this year. :)

For this year's resolution, I want to review more of the books that I read. I've always been afraid to post reviews about books that I feel lukewarm about but I did that more this fall and got great feedback. So I'm going to try to review at least 2 of of every 3 books that I read this year.

Thanks for reminding me about that resolution! :)

Thanks for checking in, and you're welcome in return! :) Rock on with the reading and reviewing.

Whew! I was worried I'd find some resolution I made and hadn't kept up with.

I did great with reading non-fiction and fiction books in 2008. I'd like to keep up with a good mix of the two for 2009. I'm targeting 150 books.

Well, I wrote another YA novel. I scrapped the WIP I was working on when I wrote that resolution. And the supersecret non-kid project got turned down, twice. (sniff sniff). But I still live in hope that something will come of it someday. But I'm working on another YA novel. Does that count?

As for this year, the one that I am comfortable making public is that I want to make the effort to get out to more Teen Author Drinks/Reading Nights. Since I gave up my childcare, it's been really hard (read impossible) for me to get into NYC at 6pm on a weeknight for those gatherings, and I REALLY miss the comraderie and the social interaction with people who understand what it's like to be holed up by yourself all day trying to create a world(both the pros and the cons). So I made a resolution to try and organize somehow to get childcare so I can make it to at least one gathering a quarter.

I'd also love to get more school visits/speaking engagements. I'm developing a Healing Words workshop based on my work with PURGE, with the aim of using writing to help people overcome difficult situations and emotional trauma.

Of course it counts!

Sending you support and good vibes for the supersecret project.

Go you!

Drat, you caught me. I held back on a couple of resolutions. Like Becky last year, I want to get be better organized when it comes to books, reading, and reviews.

I'm a list person turning into a spreadsheet person, so at least there are tools to help. I'll refrain from picking a number of books, because I'm afraid that will tarnish the fun of reading. Instead ...

I want to read a biography of at least one person for each of the decades of the 20th century. I'll keep my eyes open for people in different field of accomplishment and from as many corners of the earth as possible. Biography is such a wonderful genre, and I read lots of them in high school and college, but I've gotten away from them over the years.

Last but not least I want to be a regular (once a month?) participant in Nonfiction Monday and Poetry Friday.

Happy New Year, Little Willow!

Happy New Year! :)

Ooh to the bio reading plan. I like the sound of that. Enjoy!

I love Poetry Friday, and I wish I had time to participate in Nonfiction Monday and bore you all with my love of Ancient Egypt and chaos theory.
