Poetry Friday: The Lion and the Unicorn

August 28th, 2009 (05:50 am)
thirsty

Current Mood: thirsty
Current Song: Without a Trace score music

The lion and the unicorn
Were fighting for the crown
The lion beat the unicorn
All around the town.

Some gave them white bread,
And some gave them brown;
Some gave them plum cake
and drummed them out of town

You may have read this nursery rhyme in Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There by Lewis Carroll.

Excellent. Speaking of which, did you know that John Stamos will be starring as Albert in the Broadway revival of Bye Bye Birdie?

I love this! Lewis Carroll is amazing--but I also like the implications...

I love the layers of nursery rhymes, as they were often commenting on society and politics!
