On a cold autumn night, under a black sky leeched of starlight and absent the moon, Captain Henry Baltimore clutched his rifle and stared across the dark abyss of the battlefield, and knew in his heart that these were the torture fields of Hell, and damnation awaited mere steps ahead.

Such was the premise for the illustrated gothic novel BALTIMORE, or, The Steadfast Tin Soldier and the Vampire by celebrated comic artist Mike Mignola and award-winning novelist Christopher Golden. Reminiscent of the illustrated tales of old, here is a lyrical, atmospheric novel of the paranormal -- and a chilling allegory for the nature of war.

Now you may follow the story of Lord Henry Baltimore in the new comics from Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden, Ben Stenbeck, and Dave Stewart, published by Dark Horse Comics.

Baltimore: The Plague Ships #1

Months after a devastating plague ends World War I, Europe is suddenly flooded with deadly vampires. Lord Henry Baltimore, a soldier determined to wipe out the monsters, is on the hunt for the creature responsible for this chaos and his own personal tragedy. What he uncovers is a terror as horrific and frightening as any he's seen on the battlefield.

Baltimore: The Plague Ships #2

Setting sail from a harbor choked with sunken ships, where plague victims are burned in great furnaces, Lord Baltimore reveals a terrible incident that took place during the war, where his men fell victim to creatures that feast on the freshly dead, and Baltimore himself first met the vampire who has become his obsession.

Baltimore: The Plague Ships #3

After a furious storm rips apart their ship, Baltimore and Vanessa wash up on an island shore in the midst of a graveyard of submarines. While taking refuge they stumble upon a ruined plague ship--a vessel used to burn vampires--now entrenched in a grotesque and dangerous fungus.

Order issue #3.

Baltimore: The Plague Ships #4

While hunting the vampire responsible for the death of his family, Lord Baltimore gets stranded on a haunted island, where horrible fungus spores cover the beaches and rotting corpses don't stay dead.

Order issue #4.

Baltimore: The Plague Ships #5

After a weird array of plague vampires attack them on the island shore, Vanessa suspects that Lord Baltimore may be damned after all.

Order issue #5.

Baltimore: The Curse Bells

This upcoming series finds Lord Henry Baltimore venturing to a secluded nunnery in Austria, where he believes Haigus, the scarred vampire who murdered Baltimore's family, lay in hiding. There are reports, however, that the inmates of this cloister practice black magic, and that a Bavarian soldier seeking a cure for the plague of demons and vampires that cut short the Great War may also have taken up residence within. Coming in 2011.
