What I'm Watching

Current Mood: artistic
Current Song: Sacrifice by Christophe Beck

My world is never silent.

I'm not just talking about the fact that my mind is always busy. If I'm at work, I'm listening to music. If I'm at home, the TV is usually on. True, I'm typically working on something else at the time and thus listening to the program more than watching it, As an actress, writer, and director, television provides me with the opportunity to further study my craft from the comfort of my own home.

Much like reading a good book, I can watch a scripted television show and a film for the sheer pleasure of it, getting caught up in the story, or I can truly study it, to break it down into beats, moments, and the space between. When I see and hear what (in my opinion) works or doesn't work, I take note of it. I learn from it.

I am currently watching (when I can!) the following scripted series:

New shows:
The Event
Undercovers
No Ordinary Family
Law & Order: Los Angeles

Returning shows:
Fringe
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
House

Currently between seasons:
Leverage
White Collar
Covert Affairs
Royal Pains
I will watch the new season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent when Vincent D'Onofrio returns.

Then there are the reruns I'll watch of contemporary favorites in syndication:
Without a Trace (even if it's an episode I've seen a million times before)
Cold Case (ditto)
House
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
The Office

It's funny how this post neglects to reveal my default channel (Turner Classic Movies) or the classic TV shows I enjoy. But that's another post for another time...or you may simply check out my previous posts about movies or television.

This post was inspired by a conversation with Emily. Hi, Emily!

What new and current shows are you watching?

I'm much the same way in that I like having background noise for a lot of what I do - be it at work, beading or writing. I always have the radio on in Receiving at work or when beading (usually peppy, upbeat music or classical) and I have a long list of TV shows I 'listen to' while writing or doing other work in my room or on the laptop. My go-to stations are A&E, The Food Network, Discovery and sometimes Peachtree TV (depending on the movie showing!). I'm pretty sure I'm caught up on Criminal Minds because of this too. I'm also trying to keep up with or get through Lie to Me, House, Castle, Mythbusters, Gossip Girl, The Big Bang Theory, Merlin, How I Met Your Mother, Slings and Arrows (you might enjoy that show!) and Due South.

I love your icon!

KAM loves Due South. I've only seen an episode or two years ago.

I've seen a few episodes of Lie to Me and Castle.

Haha! I did a massive post a few days ago on what i'm currently watching. Turned into something longer than i was expecting!

How are you finding The Event? I watched the pilot and nothing drew me in. Is it worth sticking with it?

Wow we only share Covert Affairs and White Collar! Although I haven't even yet finished those seasons - I'm woefully behind on TV.

White Collar has it all: great casting, great costuming, great characters (kudos to the writers, actors, and directors), great pacing, even great score music (how much do you love the music box pieces?) You'll have to tell me when you're all caught up on White Collar. The season finale was a doozy.

I'm happy that so many groovy actors are currently employed by Covert Affairs.

I have seen many episodes of Glee, but none yet for Modern Family.
