Booklist: Sing Sing Sing

June 20th, 2009 (09:40 am)
artistic

Current Mood: artistic
Current Song: Singin' in the Rain by Gene Kelly

Why simply walk and talk when you can dance and sing?

As I have mentioned in previous posts, I am a performer. Music is a very important part of my life. I sing to music. I dance to music. If I am not singing or listening to music, I am singing or composing in my head.

Here now is a variety of stories about singers, some bold, some shy. There's a character who only sings in her school choir, another who wants to be a professional opera singer, and many others who come alive on stage.

Thanks for including DIVA on your "Sing Sing Sing" booklist. I'm glad you discovered Gaby's BACKSTAGE PASS. She's in my SCBWI, and I thought her book deserved more notice than it got. Another friend has a "but I do want to be famous" book coming out in 2008 (I think. I'm actually supposed to be reading her revision right at this very moment). It's about an ordinary girl who is thrust into the modeling world after going with her beautiful sister to an open call at the mall. The author, Debbie Fischer, worked in the modeling industry in SoBe and was in the Miss Florida pageant. The title is (I love this) BRALESS IN WONDERLAND.

So, look for it.

You are welcome. I really liked DIVA. You deserve additional kudos for having her stick to her genre - to classical opera - whereas many other people would feel pressured to do something more "hip." (I've seen it happen with friends and students, and it always breaks my heart.)

Yes, BACKSTAGE PASS is adorable. I liked CUBANITA as well.

Cute title! The inclusion of the word WONDERLAND would make me pick it up straightaway. (I'm an Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.) Keep me posted on it.
