Poetry Friday: Girl by Marcella Pixley

They knew who she was.
When they looked at her,
they could see what would happen.
She would eat up alone:
leaning against some street corner,
crumbling brick, iron bars,
smokestacks, and they would think --
I knew this about her.
Even before it happpened
I could see it coming, like a storm
in the distance, dark and cold as rain.

- Girl as written by Miriam, the protagonist of the novel Freak by Marcella Pixley
