Poetry Friday: I Always Liked That by Maria Mena

September 13th, 2013 (07:00 am)

Current Mood: thoughtful
Current Song: I Always Liked That by Maria Mena

And I always liked that about me
That I know what I am fighting for
And for this, I'd go to war
Weapon in mind is my mind's skin
Swaddled around the only body part
That should matter: My heart.

- lyrics from I Always Liked That by Maria Mena

Maria Mena is an amazing storyteller, and she chooses to share these stories in song. I can't tell you what I like more, her lyrics and her voice: emotional, evocative, heartbreaking, haunting, honest, and true. I own all of her albums. If you asked me to list my top five favorite Maria Mena songs, it would be difficult, as I love so many of her songs. (But feel free to ask, because I'm always happy to share the love!) The song I've highlighted today, I Always Liked That, comes from her new album, Weapon in Mind, which will be released later this month. I can't wait!

I'll probably just import the Norway album if I can. Want it so badly! Love the songs from it that I've heard so far. I still need to get Cause and Effect and Viktoria too (noticed they're fairly cheap on Amazon right now so might have to get them when I've got the funds). I haven't seen any news yet for a US release, not even on iTunes, which seems weird.

Yes, get the albums you are missing! They are all so very good. :)

I just found this song a couple weeks ago, and I cannot stop listening to it. The tone of her voice, the honesty, the melody - it makes me cry and light up all at once.

The video is beautiful, too.
